Priced to Sell

“The only iron law here is the one too obvious to write a book about, which is that the digital age has so transformed the ways in which things are made and sold that there are no iron laws.”

Interesting article “PRICED TO SELL – Is free the future?” in The New Yorker. Addressing the issues with free vs. paid.
My opinion – compromise/balance is the answer. There is not going to be everything-for-free utopia, but the old cash-in models will not work as well. The signs are all around.

The Future of …

“When new technologies are being developed, the organizations that win are those that aggressively take risks, put visionary technologists in key decision-making positions, attain a deep organizational mastery of the relevant technologies, and, in most cases, make a lot of mistakes. Being wrong is a feature, not a bug, if it helps you evolve a model that works: you start out with an idea that’s just plain wrong, but that contains the seed of a better idea. You improve it, and you’re only somewhat wrong. You improve it again, and you end up the only game in town.”

A brilliant post “Is scientific publishing about to be disrupted?” in Michael Nielsen’s blog. Although it’s about scientific publishing, it gives very good overview of what and why is happening now in the media industry. A worthwhile read.

Remember When

A fun way of telling the world what kind or changes are happening and what kind of assholes are resisting them. This comic was published today on The Pirate Bay’s homepage. I’m following closely the spectrial going on in Sweden.
Nice place for updates on what’s new in torrent world – here. Including everyday news about spectrial against The Pirate Bay.

Creativity & Law

Hallelujah! Nothing more to add. The old just has to die for something new to be born.

Mouse and keyboard? No, thanks.
This just shows You that everything can be improved and reinvented in some way.

Outdated Products

Last night I realized why do I don’t have TV at home for a two or three years already. I’ve never thought about it really, but suddenly it hit me yesterday – TV (channels, not the box) is an outdated product. It is. For me at least. TV doesn’t give me what I want when I want it and how I want it, TV is totally outperformed by computer+internet – I download my favorite shows, watch them in time I prefer, pause while I go to grab some refreshment from fridge, rewind and ffw to enjoy or skip some stuff. And – the best of all – there are no annoying ad breaks! And resolution is better. And I can share with my friends. And I can upload my own stuff, create my own channels, interact with other channel owners, and, and, and.
I think TV is dead. Long live the TV.

P.S.: I feel the same paradigm in case of music on CDs, films on DVDs (Blu-ray is the last dinosaur) etc. I just hope some books stay.
